About children´s spectacles: What is of special importance, and from which age can "children´s eyes" be examined?

Eye examinations, also alleged dioptoscopies (determination of the refractive power) are possible as of the date of birth.

Should children´s spectacles be tinted or dereflected?

No, never! Tinted glasses distort the colors and allow less light incidence. All common glasses for spectacles offer good UV protection.

There are different opinions regarding dereflection. It is reasonable in stronger glasses as from about +2.0 or -2.0 diopters or in cases of astigmatism. However, the single dereflection is sufficient.

How to choose spectacles?

Always together with your child. Let your child choose the frame, so that your child will like it.

Now my child has spectacles. What comes next?


The next step is control by your ophthalmologist. He or she will control the power of the glasses and, where required, carry out a control examination at the eye school. In this way, you can be sure that regarding this important step in your child´s life - wearing spectacles - everything necessary will be done to treat or avoid any danger of diminished visual acuity.
