- opening of the lens capsule (capsulorhexis)
- ultrasound suction of lenticular nucleus (phako-emulsification)
- inserting the artificial lens
The eyeball is opened using the smallest possible incision, at the side at the border to the cornea.
The wafer thin lens capsule is opened in a circle and the cloudy mass removed leaving behind a clear, empty lens capsule.

A small plastic lens is inserted into the empty lens capsule.
